Over the past ten years, Photolucida’s Critical Mass competition has provided emerging and mid-career photographers with key opportunities in terms of exposure, connection and community in the creative arts. Participants are asked to submit a portfolio of 10 images, which are subjected to a pre-screening process and narrowed into a group of 200 finalists. From there, the works are viewed and voted on by over 200 museum curators, gallerists, publishers, editors, and media producers. The Top 50 are awarded a monograph award, residency awards, solo show awards, and a group show. This year, Photo Lucida also extended merit-based scholarships to MFA program students.
