PAGES FROM THE DIARY OF SOPHIE HARRIS TAYLOR
Sophie Harris-Taylor is a London based photographer. Alongside being as an exhibiting fine art and commercial portraitist, she also lectures in photography.
Sophie works exclusively with natural and ambient light sources, lending her work an unusual softness and depth as well as an inherent sincere quality. She describes her artistic practice as “truth-seeking,” starting from a feeling that there is a continual sense of beauty in honesty, whatever it may reveal. To this end the most important part of her process, beyond any technical ambition, is creating a relationship with her subjects, creating an environment in which they feel comfortable to reveal themselves without consciousness or pretension.
My diary, MTWTFSS, is an autobiographical body of work. A fragmented, sporadic sort of journal. It is a reflection of myself and those I know and love. In familiar, often mundane surroundings I try to capture some element of truth of our lives. This is an intimate experience, only two of us, bared (often literally). For me, these everyday, forgotten nothings are more important and truthful than any other. I want to capture the moments between the momentous.
