James Cooper’s charming illustrations delve into a strange and surreal fantasy world, populated by a host of long-limbed creatures.
In a style that is evocative of Doctor Seuss , albeit with a contemporary street-art twist, Cooper takes us for a stroll through exciting two dimensional sceneries. His penchant for wobbly lines, his complete disregard for notions of perspective and proportion, and his use of bold, simplistic colour palettes all add to the childlike beauty of his artwork.
James Cooper is a visual artist based in Perth, Australia, focusing on heta-uma illustration through the form of drawing, print, painting and murals. James interprets second hand imagery sourced from the internet, piles of national geographic magazines and immediate surroundings; into scenes of abstracted objects and characters, creating an amalgamation of pop culture and everything hyper-dumb. James has received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Curtin University, and is involved with local art gang “Loser Unit”, a lo-fi art/graffiti/design collective. showcasing national and international artists through zines and exhibitions.
