HUGO COSTA

“My subconscious is totally programmed to find strong lines, symmetry, shadow play and colours. I never go out with a place to photograph already existing in my mind.”

Hugo Miguel Costa is a photographer and bookseller from the South of Portugal ,who recently moved to Amsterdam where he now lives and works. Hugo started experimenting with photography when he was younger, with an old Nikon F. During those days he was addicted to the sharp aesthetic of black and white photography. One day, abruptly and without a clear reason, he stopped shooting.

That is, until last year, when he re-emerged with a bang and started capturing stunning architectural shots on a daily basis.

“My subconscious is totally programmed to find strong lines, symmetry, shadow play and colours. I never go out with a place to photograph already existing in my mind.”

Hugo Costa only shoots with his IPhone 5c. He considers it a personal challenge to take photographs with just a 8 megapixels camera. And regardless of the megapixel count, we find his images wonderfully striking.
