August 2015: Point B

Point B is a curated collection of artwork, spanning across a variety of creative media, that addresses the thematic of location, distance and trajectory. With this issue we were specifically interested in understanding how different artists would approach the idea of “over there:” a sense of remoteness rooted in spatial, temporal, or conceptual realms.

For some of our collaborators, Point B came to signify the physical setting of distant childhood recollections (Leah, Trujillo, Evans). For others it was an exploration of architectural or natural landscapes (Coletto, Eban, Ferreira, Tignanelli). Very often, the idea of detachment went hand in hand with notions of memory; we found that many of our collaborating artists attempted to celebrate, resurrect, preserve, or remember the past by embalming it in creative formats. (Cremona, Doroszenko)
Point B also came to be defined through the representation of movement or motion, (Van den Nieuwendijk, Juno) otherworldly dimensions (Rodriguez, Cooper, Elevator Teeth), and interpretations of cartography (Eigan, Walker).
